The Design & Packaging Masters 2025 honored excellence in spirits packaging, highlighting innovation, sustainability, and storytelling across gin, whisky, and more.
The Design & Packaging Masters 2025 has once again celebrated the very best in spirits packaging, recognizing creativity, sustainability, and technical excellence across categories including gin, whisky, rum, and vodka. Hosted by The Spirits Business, this annual competition brings together a panel of leading designers, brand strategists, and industry professionals to evaluate entries from across the globe.
This year’s edition highlighted the shifting dynamics in alcohol packaging—where visual storytelling and sustainability now share the spotlight with luxury aesthetics. Judges noted a growing emphasis on environmentally friendly materials, reusable components, and minimalist design strategies that still evoke premium quality.
Among the standout winners were:
- Inginious Gin – praised for its embossed glass bottle and locally sourced cork stopper
- Fiorente Liqueur – which received accolades for its floral-inspired design and elegant typography
- Lost Loch Spirits – recognized for its bold, matte-black finish and sustainability messaging
- Ardgowan Distillery – awarded for its commitment to fully recyclable packaging and carbon-conscious design
The judges evaluated entries based on innovation, material use, structural engineering, shelf appeal, and how well the packaging communicated the essence of the brand. Sustainability played a major role in this year’s selection, with many brands opting for glass bottles made from recycled content, biodegradable labels, and plastic-free shipping components.
“What we saw this year was a convergence of beauty and purpose,” said one of the judges. “The best designs didn’t just look good—they told a story about values, origin, and the future of packaging.”
Trends emerging from the 2025 competition include:
- Use of tactile textures and layered printing to create multi-sensory experiences
- High-contrast minimalism: black-and-white palettes with bold type and geometry
- Integration of augmented reality (AR) and digital storytelling through QR codes
- Clear messaging around sustainability and provenance on labels and closures
For spirits brands, packaging remains one of the most powerful marketing tools at shelf level, especially in competitive premium categories. As younger consumers gravitate toward brands with strong design and ethical values, packaging innovation is becoming central to product strategy.
The Design & Packaging Masters continues to set a high bar for the global beverage industry, challenging producers not just to impress, but to inspire. With entries from established distilleries and boutique producers alike, the 2025 awards reflect a vibrant and evolving landscape where packaging design is a stage for both tradition and transformation.
