French food packaging group Guillin strengthens its European presence by acquiring Belgian cardboard packaging specialists Gruyaert Verpakking and Verpakkingen V de V.

Guillin Expands Cardboard Pastry Packaging Footprint with Strategic Acquisitions in Belgium

French food packaging group Guillin is continuing its European expansion strategy with the acquisition of two Belgian companies specialising in cardboard packaging for the food and pastry sectors: Gruyaert Verpakking and Verpakkingen V de V. The transaction was carried out through Guillin’s subsidiary AlterecoPack and represents a significant step in strengthening the group’s presence in the Benelux region.

The two Belgian companies generated combined revenues of approximately €19 million in 2024 and employ around forty people. Gruyaert Verpakking is recognised for its expertise in the production of customised cardboard pastry boxes, while Verpakkingen V de V focuses on distribution activities within the same market segment. Both companies will retain their existing workforce and continue operating in Belgium following the acquisition.

This double takeover reinforces Guillin’s capabilities in the growing paper and cardboard packaging segment, particularly for bakery, pastry and foodservice applications. The integration will also support the development of Wefold, a Guillin subsidiary created in early 2025 to consolidate the group’s paper- and cardboard-focused businesses. By strengthening this division, Guillin aims to respond to increasing demand for fibre-based packaging solutions across Europe.

Cardboard packaging continues to gain momentum within the food industry as brands and retailers look to balance product protection, visual appeal and regulatory compliance. Customised pastry boxes and food containers play a critical role in preserving freshness while supporting brand differentiation at point of sale. Guillin’s latest acquisitions allow the group to expand its product offering and provide more tailored solutions to customers operating in competitive food markets.

Headquartered in Ornans, France, the family-owned Guillin Group reported revenues of €869.7 million in 2024 and employs approximately 3,500 people. The group operates 35 companies across Europe, including three in Belgium prior to this acquisition, and maintains a presence in more than 70 countries worldwide. Its portfolio includes around 25,000 product references covering a wide range of professional food packaging formats.

The Belgian expansion follows a series of strategic moves by Guillin in recent years, including the acquisition of Cartonnerie Moderne, Défi Imprimerie and Alpes Emballages in France during 2025. Together, these investments underline the group’s long-term commitment to strengthening its leadership position in the European food packaging market.
