NORD DRIVESYSTEMS will present a range of hygienic and energy-efficient drive technologies for packaging automation at interpack 2026, taking place from 7 to 13 May in Düsseldorf. The company will showcase its modular drive solutions designed to meet the requirements of primary, secondary and end-of-line packaging systems, particularly within the food and beverage industry.

With increasing pressure on manufacturers to improve efficiency, hygiene standards and operational reliability, drive technology has become a critical component of modern packaging equipment. NORD’s approach focuses on decentralised drive electronics and modular system architectures that simplify machine design while supporting flexible and reliable production processes.

Among the technologies on display will be a range of gear units and drive solutions developed specifically for packaging processes. These include helical, helical bevel and worm gear units, alongside servo adapter solutions compatible with NEMA and IEC flange motors. The adapters are designed to enable reliable motor integration in demanding production environments. For applications requiring food-contact suitability, the components can also be treated with the company’s NXD tupH® surface protection.

NORD will also highlight its NORDAC ON and NORDAC ON+ decentralised frequency inverters, which are designed for compact installation and simplified integration in packaging machinery. The systems include an integrated travel profile supporting functions such as synchronism and flying saw operation, while the POSICON module enables precise and dynamic positioning in servo-style applications.

Packaging environments in food processing facilities often require equipment capable of operating reliably in wash-down areas. To address these conditions, the company will present drive combinations featuring chemical-resistant IE3 smooth motors and IE5+ synchronous motors in hygienic design, paired with the NORDBLOC.1® helical bevel gear unit and the NORDAC ON PURE frequency inverter. Stainless steel connectors rated IP69K and hybrid cabling solutions help simplify maintenance while supporting reliable operation in harsh cleaning environments.

Energy efficiency is another key focus of the company’s packaging solutions. NORD’s IE5+ synchronous motors, combined with decentralised or cabinet-based inverter systems, are designed to maintain high efficiency across a broad speed range. According to the company, this approach can help machine builders reduce component variants and optimise overall system efficiency while supporting precise motion control.

The company will also present hygienic drive systems designed for use in food-contact areas. These include asynchronous motors with hygienic terminal boxes and smooth aluminium housings engineered for easy cleaning. When combined with the NXD tupH® surface treatment, the drive systems provide corrosion resistance while complying with relevant food safety standards including FDA, EU Regulation 1935/2004, and additional regulations in Switzerland and MERCOSUR markets.

The presentation at interpack highlights the growing importance of drive technology in improving packaging efficiency, hygiene compliance and machine flexibility.
