The Discovery Theatre at Packaging Innovations & Empack 2026 will spotlight cutting-edge packaging solutions, from AI and smart technologies to circular materials and emotional design.

Innovation Takes Centre Stage at Packaging Innovations & Empack 2026

Packaging Innovations & Empack 2026 will showcase the forefront of packaging innovation at its Discovery Theatre, sponsored by Sun Branding, on February 11–12 at the NEC in Birmingham. This stage will feature pioneering start-ups, SMEs, and suppliers revealing the latest in AI, smart packaging, circular materials, and sustainability.

The two-day event opens with Acentrixia Ltd, where Lena Yip will present reusable insulated thermal delivery bags, offering an eco-conscious alternative to disposable plastic. These bags enhance brand visibility and heat retention, proving sustainability can be practical and profitable.

Later on day one, Dr. Russell Sion from Jenton Dimaco will discuss AI-powered pack verification systems that minimize food waste through early error detection. GreyParrot’s Managing Director Yaseed Chuamoo will introduce Deepnest AI, a platform enabling waste analytics to help brands meet recyclability and EPR requirements. "2026 will be the year brands designing for the sorting line gain the upper hand," Chuamoo emphasized.

Other standout sessions include smart, connected packaging from KURZ SCRIBOS, Digital Product Passports with PackPeer, and AI-driven print automation with XMPie. At 13:30, Andy Johnson of Sun Branding will examine how emotional design influences consumer engagement, reflecting trends from joy to the unexpected.

Day two turns its focus toward sustainable materials and circular systems. Trakya Pack will present moulded pulp as a viable plastic replacement, while one.five's Gregorio Ossola will explore data-led barrier material strategies for performance and sustainability. Attendees will also learn how smart packaging can foster direct consumer engagement and brand loyalty in the “Phygital Loop.”

Talks will continue with insights from Zevero Earth on emissions tracking, ESKO and CarbonQuota on automated workflows, and further AI-driven, connected packaging solutions combining 3D visualization and consumer analytics.

The Discovery Theatre will serve as a hub for the industry's most innovative solutions—bridging design, tech, and sustainability to empower packaging professionals across industries.

Packaging Innovations & Empack 2026 takes place February 11–12 at NEC Birmingham. Registration is now open for industry professionals ready to explore the next frontier of packaging.
