Van Genechten Packaging Group has been awarded Flanders’ Company of the Year 2025, recognizing its strong market position, consistent innovation, and sustainable growth in the European packaging industry. The award was presented by Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele during a ceremony in early December.

Headquartered in Turnhout, Belgium, Van Genechten Packaging is a sixth-generation family business. It employs over 2,300 people across 17 sites in nine countries and generated a turnover of €436 million in 2024. The jury praised the company for standing out in a highly competitive sector through customer loyalty, operational excellence, and intelligent investment strategies.

According to jury chair Michèle Sioen, Van Genechten’s strategic approach is based on decentralised ownership, strong collaboration between management and shareholders, and a clear focus on end-to-end solutions. These values have led to a successful transformation, positioning the company as a European leader in sustainable and innovative cardboard packaging.

Chairman Frédéric de Somer has now won the title twice — previously in 2008 with Cartamundi, a global manufacturer of playing cards. This 2025 win further highlights his leadership in building long-term value within Belgian industry.

The award is organised annually by EY in collaboration with De Tijd, L’Echo, BNP Paribas Fortis, and WorxInvest. Other nominees this year included ABO Group Environment, Equine Care Group, and Noord Natie.

The recognition of Van Genechten Packaging reflects a broader shift in the packaging sector toward innovation, agility, and sustainability. With increasing demand for eco-friendly materials and circular business models, companies that combine environmental awareness with operational excellence are increasingly being rewarded on both market and institutional levels.
