Amcor and Fedrigoni introduce a recycle-ready mono-material wet wipe packaging solution, combining barrier protection, branding appeal, and sustainability.
Amcor and Fedrigoni have unveiled a groundbreaking solution for the personal care sector: a recycle-ready packaging for wet wipes. This innovation, revealed in early April 2025, promises to combine high performance with enhanced recyclability, marking a significant advancement toward sustainable flexible packaging solutions.
The new packaging has been developed in response to mounting pressure from regulators and consumers alike to eliminate non-recyclable multilayer materials from the market. Traditionally, wet wipe packs have relied on complex laminates that offer moisture resistance and durability but are incompatible with standard recycling systems.
The collaboration between Amcor—a global packaging leader—and Fedrigoni—a manufacturer of self-adhesive materials and specialty papers—has resulted in a mono-material packaging structure designed to be fully recyclable within polyethylene (PE) recycling streams. This aligns with the European Union's packaging waste directives and the upcoming PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) standards.
Key features of the packaging include:
- High barrier protection against moisture and oxygen, preserving product freshness
- Mono-PE structure suitable for mechanical recycling in established PE streams
- Printable paper face from Fedrigoni offering premium branding and tactile appeal
- Easy-peel resealable label integrated into the design for consumer convenience
According to Amcor, the packaging meets the stringent requirements of recyclability certification bodies like RecyClass, helping brands meet their 2025 and 2030 sustainability targets. The mono-material format simplifies end-of-life processing, while Fedrigoni’s contribution enables high-end aesthetics without compromising on performance or recyclability.
“This is a perfect example of how collaboration across the value chain can unlock truly sustainable innovations,” said a spokesperson from Amcor. “We’re proud to help accelerate the shift toward circular packaging solutions in the hygiene and personal care sectors.”
This launch comes at a time when wet wipe packaging is under increasing scrutiny due to its environmental impact. Many current solutions contribute to plastic pollution or are mislabelled as flushable, leading to sewage blockages and environmental damage. The new design addresses these issues not only by being recycle-ready but also by using responsibly sourced paper and adhesives that meet recyclability standards.
The move also reflects growing brand interest in sustainable packaging as a tool for differentiation. With more consumers making purchasing decisions based on eco-credentials, innovations like this can help brands in the personal care space gain competitive advantage.
As more pressure mounts from both legislation and consumer expectations, industry partnerships like this one between Amcor and Fedrigoni are becoming essential. Their collaboration sets a new benchmark in functional, premium, and sustainable packaging for a sector that has long struggled with recyclability challenges.
