Amcor Partners with University of Southern Indiana to Promote Student-Led Packaging Innovations

Amcor has partnered with the University of Southern Indiana (USI) to foster student-led packaging innovations through a new collaborative initiative. The partnership will give students the opportunity to work on real-world packaging challenges, providing them with valuable hands-on experience and career development opportunities.

As part of the partnership, Amcor and USI will launch a semester-long internship program in Spring 2026. Seven students will participate in the program, supported by four faculty mentors and Amcor professionals. The project aims to co-create practical packaging concepts that address current industry needs, with a focus on sustainability, efficiency, and innovative packaging solutions.

“This partnership is a powerful example of how collaboration between universities and industry leaders can help foster talent and create innovative solutions for the future,” said Steven J. Bridges, USI President. “Amcor’s involvement offers our students the opportunity to directly engage with the packaging industry, providing them with insights and practical experience in solving real-world problems.”

The project will involve students from various disciplines, including art and design, engineering, marketing, economics, and manufacturing technology. This multidisciplinary approach will allow students to develop a comprehensive understanding of packaging challenges while building skills that are critical for the future of the industry.

Amcor, a global leader in packaging solutions, aims to promote fresh thinking in packaging innovation through this partnership. Bill Norman, Amcor Rigid Packaging Solutions North America President, noted, “At Amcor, we are always looking for fresh perspectives to help us innovate and improve packaging solutions. This partnership not only supports the workforce of tomorrow but also provides an avenue for developing solutions that can help address some of the biggest challenges in packaging today.”

The initiative will culminate in the students presenting their final packaging concepts to Amcor leaders for review and feedback. The goal is to bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that students are well-prepared for careers in packaging while contributing to the development of innovative packaging solutions.
