Buckeye Corrugated is expanding its Reno facility with new converting, prototyping and finishing equipment ahead of a June grand opening and innovation showcase, strengthening corrugated packaging capacity for West Coast customers.

BCI prepares Reno packaging hub for June showcase with advanced corrugated equipment

Buckeye Corrugated, Inc. (BCI) is moving closer to the official launch of its new Reno operation, using a wave of equipment installation to position the site as a higher-speed, more integrated packaging hub for West Coast customers. Ahead of its June grand opening and packaging innovation showcase, the company says the Nevada facility is being equipped to support faster lead times, stronger structural design capabilities and more efficient corrugated production across a wide range of retail and transport applications.

The phased build-out includes a conveyor and unitizer system, die cutter infrastructure, a CAD table, a folder gluer and a multi-colour die cutter. Taken together, these additions show that BCI is not simply opening another box plant, but building a facility designed to connect design, production and finishing in a more seamless way. That integrated approach matters in a market where brands increasingly expect packaging suppliers to deliver speed, flexibility and engineered performance from the same regional operation.

The company says installation of the conveyor and unitizer system has already been completed, helping streamline material flow while automating the bundling and stacking of finished products. In operational terms, that should reduce manual handling, improve consistency and support quicker turnaround times. For corrugated converters, these kinds of systems are becoming central to modern plant efficiency, especially when customers are under pressure to reduce delays and respond faster to changing retail and distribution needs.

Further investment is being directed into converting and prototyping capability. Infrastructure is in place for a 3-colour die cutter expected to come online in mid to late May, with the system prepared for future expansion to five-colour printing. This gives the Reno site a platform for precision cutting and higher-impact printed output across custom box designs, retail-ready packaging and protective solutions. The planned CAD table, meanwhile, is expected to accelerate structural design and prototyping, allowing customers to move more quickly from concept to production while refining pack performance and material use.

BCI’s Reno project reflects a broader shift in corrugated packaging: regional manufacturing hubs are being designed not just for output, but for speed-to-market, design support and supply-chain responsiveness.

The installation of a J&L folder gluer, scheduled for early May, adds another important layer to that strategy. Folder gluers expand the ability to produce more complex corrugated formats efficiently, including specialty boxes, displays and larger-volume runs that require reliable folding and bonding at speed. For customers launching promotions, refreshing shelf-ready packs or scaling distribution, that finishing capability can make a significant difference to commercial agility.

BCI is positioning the Reno site as a regional answer to a more demanding logistics environment. By bringing engineering, manufacturing and finishing closer to major West Coast markets, the company aims to help brands reduce freight costs, simplify supply chains and gain more flexibility for product launches and merchandising programmes. That localised model has become increasingly important as packaging users look for suppliers able to combine physical proximity with technical capability.

The June showcase will therefore serve as more than a ceremonial opening. It will act as a market-facing introduction to a facility built around modern corrugated production, rapid development and scalable converting. For the packaging industry, BCI’s Reno expansion highlights how investment in equipment, plant layout and regional service models is continuing to reshape the competitive landscape for corrugated packaging across North America.
