Moelven Wood's groundbreaking partnership with Billerud, introducing an eco-friendly packaging solution for interior panels. Witness the future of sustainable living with innovative green packaging.
Wood-based building and interior products manufacturer Moelven Wood has partnered with Billerud to develop a new paper-based packaging solution for its interior panels. This initiative is part of an effort to replace the currently used plastic shrink wrap with an eco-friendly alternative.
Development of the packaging is set to begin in January 2024.
The solution will contribute to Moelven’s carbon footprint reduction by using renewable materials.
Billerud business development manager Björn Larsson said: “The packaging solution that we presented offers a modern and attractive packaging for a modern and attractive panel.”
The partnership was formed as part of an innovation competition hosted by Paper Province, a forestry bioeconomy cluster.
In September this year, a total of 22 solution proposals were submitted by 19 companies in response to Moelven’s challenge for a more sustainable packaging solution.
Among the participants, Ahlstrom, Billerud, Boxon, Lignin Industries, and T-Emballage were chosen to further refine their ideas at the MoelvenHackathon event in Karlstad, Sweden.
The event, which took place on 11 and 12 December, provided companies with mentorship in various business areas to hone their proposals.
At the competition’s conclusion, Billerud’s fibre-based packaging solution was selected by Moelven’s jury.
Moelven product development manager Tjalling Chaudron said: “Billerud’s team presented a sharp and concrete solution that conveys sustainability, reflects the content, and visually stands out in stores.
“We are confident that we together can develop a packaging with good technical properties, that can add value to our products and have an achievable implementation in the factory.”
