Five Star, a leading Thai food franchise, pioneers eco-friendly practices by adopting FSC-certified packaging, promoting sustainability and supporting ecosystem balance.

Five Star Franchise Leads Thai Market with FSC-Certified Sustainable Packaging

Five Star, a prominent food franchise in Thailand under CPF Restaurant and Food Chain Co., Ltd., has taken a pioneering step towards sustainability by adopting FSC®-certified packaging. This move marks the first Thai franchise to implement eco-friendly packaging that meets the international FSC® standard, demonstrating a commitment to responsible sourcing and environmental conservation.

The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification guarantees that the packaging materials come from sustainably managed forests, ensuring ecological and social benefits without causing deforestation. Five Star’s initiative includes using biodegradable cups for its STAR Coffee brand and replacing plastic bucket lids with FSC-certified paper alternatives. These changes aim to minimize the environmental footprint of its operations while promoting recyclable and food-grade safe materials free from harmful chemicals.

Sunthorn Jaksukan, President of CPF Restaurant and Food Chain, highlighted the company’s dedication to balancing quality, sustainability, and affordability. ‘Our eco-friendly strategy addresses consumer demand for sustainable products while supporting climate change mitigation and ecosystem balance,’ Sunthorn emphasized. This approach aligns Five Star’s business model with global sustainability goals, enhancing its brand image as an industry leader in environmental initiatives.

In addition, Five Star has joined the ‘No Refry’ campaign in collaboration with Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited (BCP) and Thailand’s Department of Health. This program encourages food businesses to refrain from reusing cooking oil and promotes its conversion into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), further extending the franchise’s commitment to sustainability.

The FSC® certification involves rigorous standards that protect forest resources, conserve biodiversity, uphold local community rights, and ensure fair working conditions for forest workers. Five Star’s shift towards FSC-certified packaging exemplifies a model for sustainable franchise practices, encouraging other businesses to adopt eco-friendly solutions and contribute to global environmental efforts.
