Infineon, a major automotive and power semiconductor manufacturer, has announced an expanded partnership with semiconductor packaging and testing services provider Amkor Technology to enhance supply chain capabilities in Europe. Together, they will establish a new packaging and testing center in Porto, Portugal, bolstering semiconductor assembly and testing while reinforcing the resilience of the European semiconductor supply chain.
The new facility, located in Amkor's specialized semiconductor packaging facility in Porto, will focus on cleanroom production lines and leverage Infineon's product design and development expertise. This strategic move aims to further expand Infineon's business presence in Portugal and solidify Europe's position as a semiconductor manufacturing hub, enhancing regional manufacturing flexibility and supply security.
In another initiative, Infineon has partnered with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) to develop environmentally friendly shipping technologies. By leveraging power semiconductor technology, they aim to accelerate the electrification of mechanical systems in maritime applications, promoting low-carbon shipping and environmental sustainability.
Infineon will provide technical support and guidance to HD KSOE, sharing insights on semiconductor trends relevant to maritime applications.
