Lumson has launched the FREE Pump, a metal-free, fully recyclable pump designed for both airless and atmospheric packaging, responding to regulatory changes expected by 2030.
Lumson has expanded its portfolio of mono-material, fully recyclable pumps with the introduction of the FREE Pump. Made entirely from polypropylene (PP) and designed without a metal spring, the FREE Pump is 100% recyclable and certified RecyClass Class A. This new pump addresses the growing need for sustainable packaging in the cosmetics industry, particularly in response to regulatory changes expected to take effect by 2030.
The FREE Pump is an innovative solution for both airless and atmospheric packaging. By replacing the traditional metal spring with a high-performance plastic component, Lumson has maintained the reliability, dispensing precision, and user comfort that are essential for cosmetics packaging, while significantly improving sustainability. This move positions Lumson at the forefront of the shift towards more eco-friendly packaging options.
At the core of the new pump lies a durable, lightweight, and flexible polymer that has been adapted from cutting-edge industries such as aerospace and medical fields. This material is capable of withstanding mechanical, thermal, and chemical stress, ensuring long-lasting accuracy and smooth actuation comfort, comparable to traditional metal-spring pumps.
Lumson's CEO, Diederik Goyvaerts, commented, “The FREE Pump is a major step forward in our commitment to sustainability. With this product, we’re helping the cosmetics industry transition to more eco-friendly alternatives without compromising on performance or user experience. It’s an important innovation as we continue to meet the regulatory requirements and sustainability goals of our customers.”
The FREE Pump is now available for large-scale production, with both airless and atmospheric versions designed to be compatible with a 24/410 neck. It has also earned the coveted RecyClass certification, ensuring that it is fully compatible with the PP recycling stream when used in combination with a PP bottle and cap in a neutral version. This certification highlights the pump’s sustainability credentials and its ability to contribute to a circular economy.
This breakthrough in sustainable packaging technology comes at a crucial time, as the cosmetics industry increasingly focuses on reducing its environmental impact. The introduction of the FREE Pump provides manufacturers with a practical solution to meet both environmental and regulatory challenges while maintaining the high standards of quality and usability that consumers expect.
By embracing innovative materials and reengineering its internal mechanisms, Lumson has proven its leadership in creating packaging solutions that align with both consumer preferences for sustainability and industry demands for performance and compliance. As the global packaging industry moves towards a more sustainable future, the FREE Pump represents a significant step forward in achieving these goals.
