Macpac and Martin’s Chocolatier Create Festive Snow Globe Packaging

In a remarkable fusion of festive charm and innovative packaging, Macpac has collaborated with Martin’s Chocolatier to create a unique snow globe-inspired package for their latest holiday offering. This inventive design not only enhances the visual appeal of the product but also serves a functional purpose, embodying the spirit of the season.

Martin’s Chocolatier, renowned for its luxury chocolates sourced from esteemed artisan chocolatiers worldwide, sought a packaging solution that would encapsulate the essence of a traditional snow globe. The objective was to design a package that could securely house a hollow chocolate Santa and accompanying snowball truffles, while also allowing consumers to invert the globe to sprinkle icing over the treats, mimicking the snowfall effect of a classic snow globe.

After encountering challenges with initial prototypes from another supplier, Martin’s Chocolatier turned to Macpac for a solution. Macpac's in-house design team rose to the occasion, developing a clear, two-piece pack comprising a robust domed lid that securely clips onto a separate base. This design ensures that the chocolate Santa remains firmly in place, even when the globe is inverted, allowing consumers to enjoy the interactive experience of dusting their chocolates with icing.

The packaging is crafted from lightweight, 100% recyclable recycled PET (rPET), aligning with both companies' commitment to sustainability. The inclusion of a friction clip mechanism, supplemented by transparent self-adhesive security tabs, ensures the contents are securely enclosed, maintaining product integrity during handling and transport.

Neil Greenhalgh, Sales Engineer at Macpac, highlighted the project's complexities: “There were a number of design issues to overcome with this project. Part of the brief was for the forming to grip and hold the hollow chocolate mould tight enough that it could be turned upside down. This meant that the holding of the Santa in position by his feet was literally touch and go but the team pulled out all the stops to get a design that matched the brief and we are delighted with the end result.”

To complete the festive presentation, the snow globe is housed within a specially designed cardboard box adorned with a winter wonderland scene, enhancing its appeal as a holiday centerpiece or gift. This thoughtful packaging not only protects the delicate chocolate contents but also adds to the overall unboxing experience, making it a memorable treat for consumers.

This collaboration between Macpac and Martin’s Chocolatier exemplifies how innovative packaging can elevate a product, creating an engaging and memorable consumer experience. By combining aesthetic appeal with functionality and sustainability, they have set a new standard for holiday-themed packaging in the confectionery industry.
