Metsä Board partners with HejBuddy to create an eco-friendly, lightweight micro-flute packaging solution, reducing weight by 50% and optimizing storage efficiency.
Metsä Board, a leader in sustainable packaging solutions, has partnered with the Finnish cosmetics brand HejBuddy to develop a new lightweight, eco-friendly packaging. The innovation centers on a micro-flute corrugated board made from Metsä Board’s white kraftliner, offering significant weight reduction and sustainability benefits.
The packaging is 50% lighter than traditional rigid boxes made from recycled fibers. In addition to saving weight, it’s designed to reduce storage space by being collapsible, which contrasts with the typically imported assembled packaging that occupies substantial container space. The ease of folding and recycling enhances its appeal, making it a truly sustainable solution.
The micro-flute packaging is highly versatile, featuring a customizable sleeve that enables brands to adapt the packaging for different promotional needs, such as seasonal campaigns. This adaptability also extends to production, as local manufacturers can create smaller batches, offering a cost-effective solution to brands like HejBuddy.
HejBuddy's founder, Niina Tuominen, emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility, reflecting her values as a forest owner. She praised Metsä Board for sharing these values, noting that nature plays a pivotal role in her company’s brand identity.
Metsä Board's Ilkka Harju, Packaging Services Director, explained the driving motivation behind this development: to create a flexible alternative to rigid boxes that balances aesthetics, durability, and sustainability. The result is a packaging solution that not only supports the environment but also offers a luxurious, stylish presentation for premium brands.
This collaboration highlights Metsä Board’s commitment to innovation in sustainable packaging. With the cosmetics market increasingly focusing on eco-friendly solutions, the micro-flute packaging provides a perfect fit for brands seeking a balance between sustainability and aesthetic appeal.
By aligning with the growing consumer demand for environmentally responsible packaging, Metsä Board and HejBuddy are setting a new standard in the industry.
