Milliken introduces Millad ClearX 9000, a next-gen clarifier for polypropylene that delivers ultra-clear transparency, reduced additives, and enhanced compatibility with PCR content.
Milliken & Company has unveiled its latest innovation in polypropylene (PP) packaging technology: Millad ClearX 9000. Designed to meet the growing demand for ultra-clear, sustainable, and efficient packaging solutions, this next-generation clarifying agent is poised to redefine performance standards across food, home, and medical packaging segments.
Built on the well-established Millad platform, ClearX 9000 delivers ultra-clear transparency in PP applications while using significantly lower additive loading levels. This not only enhances material efficiency but also minimizes the environmental impact of packaging production. Milliken emphasizes that this technology supports both virgin and post-consumer recycled (PCR) polypropylene, making it a major leap forward in circular packaging innovation.
Among the standout features of Millad ClearX 9000 are:
- Reduced clarifier loading: Achieves exceptional clarity with less additive use, improving cost-efficiency and reducing material intensity.
- Lower extraction and migration rates: Critical for food-contact and medical applications, this feature enhances product safety and regulatory compliance.
- Improved processing compatibility: Facilitates faster changeovers and reduces waste, directly benefiting production efficiency and operational uptime.
- Resin flexibility: Eliminates the need for separating virgin and PCR resin streams, enabling streamlined workflows and more sustainable material choices.
“Millad ClearX 9000 is a breakthrough for the polypropylene industry,” said Wim Van De Velde, SVP and Managing Director of Milliken’s plastic additives business. “It delivers ultra-clear transparency with less clarifying additive and greater flexibility for our customers.”
Importantly, ClearX 9000 has received broad FDA approval (Conditions of Use A–J), opening the door to a wide variety of food-contact applications. For converters and resin producers, this means greater formulation freedom and compatibility with other clarifiers, including those within Milliken's existing product lineup. The result is not only enhanced aesthetic value but also improved sustainability metrics and manufacturing agility.
Bhavesh Gandhi, Global Product Line Manager for Milliken’s plastic additives, explained, “Our team developed Millad ClearX 9000 to address the growing need for clarity and efficiency in polypropylene applications. We’re helping customers create products that are visually appealing and meet the highest standards for food and medical use.”
Milliken has long been at the forefront of clarifying agent innovation. Its Millad portfolio has enabled the transformation of opaque PP into clear, lightweight, and recyclable packaging options, helping manufacturers transition to more environmentally responsible solutions. ClearX 9000 represents a continuation of that legacy—pushing boundaries in clarity, efficiency, and sustainability.
As packaging stakeholders continue to seek materials that support both performance and environmental goals, innovations like Millad ClearX 9000 will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transparent, circular packaging systems.
