Movopack raises £2 million in seed funding to introduce its reusable e-commerce packaging in the UK, aiming to reduce environmental impact and comply with upcoming EU regulations.
Movopack, an Italian-based company specializing in circular and sustainable packaging solutions for e-commerce, has successfully raised £2 million in a seed funding round. This investment, led by early-stage investor 360 Capital with participation from Greiner Innoventures and Techstars, is set to support Movopack's official launch in the UK market.
The company's innovative packaging is crafted from recycled materials, including rPET sourced from plastic bottles and woven recycled polypropylene. Designed for durability, each package can be reused up to 20 times, significantly reducing environmental impact. A Life Cycle Assessment by Life Cycle Engineering indicates that, compared to single-use cardboard packaging, Movopack's solution reduces CO₂ emissions by 84%, energy consumption by 80%, and water usage by 76%.
To facilitate seamless returns, Movopack has partnered with Royal Mail, enabling consumers to return used packaging via any of the UK's 115,000 postboxes. This collaboration aims to simplify the return process, encouraging widespread adoption of reusable packaging among retailers and consumers alike.
Co-founder and CEO Tomaso Torriani expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, “This funding round demonstrates the growing enthusiasm for Movopack's potential to transform the e-commerce industry with sustainable, circular packaging solutions. We're particularly excited about this investment as it enables us to launch in the UK at a time when the demand for sustainable solutions has never been stronger.”
Movopack's entry into the UK market aligns with impending EU legislation requiring 10% of e-commerce packaging to be reusable by 2030, escalating to 50% by 2040. By providing cost-effective, customizable, and returnable packaging solutions, Movopack positions itself as a pivotal player in aiding retailers to meet these regulatory benchmarks while addressing the escalating packaging waste crisis.
With a growing clientele exceeding 100 brands worldwide, including notable names like OTB Group—owners of Diesel, Marni, Maison Margiela, and Jil Sander—Movopack is poised to make a significant impact in promoting sustainability within the e-commerce sector.
