Discover how Müller is transforming packaging with NaviLens technology, enhancing accessibility for visually impaired consumers and improving the shopping experience for all.

Müller Introduces NaviLens Technology for Inclusive Packaging Accessibility

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Müller’s ongoing efforts to refresh its brand and packaging, aligning with the company's dedication to inclusivity and healthier lifestyles.

Developed with valuable insights from Sight Loss Councils (SLCs)—regional groups of blind and partially sighted volunteers funded by the Thomas Pocklington Trust—this initiative introduces high-contrast colour codes that are detectable by smartphone cameras from considerable distances, surpassing traditional QR codes. These NaviLens codes, which can be read from up to 12 times the distance and at angles up to 160 degrees, allow users to scan them without needing to locate the codes precisely.

Upon scanning, the corresponding app provides audio and haptic feedback to guide users in centering the code in their smartphone’s camera. The app then vocalizes or displays, based on user settings, essential product information such as ingredients, allergens, nutritional details, and recycling instructions.

This technology will gradually be implemented across all Müller products, starting with the newly relaunched Müller Light range. Richard Williams, CEO of Müller, emphasized the transformative potential of this technology: “We aim to help people lead healthier and happier lives. Being the first in the industry to partner with NaviLens is a key step towards achieving that goal. This technology not only facilitates independence for those with visual impairments but also enhances the shopping experience for all consumers.”

Louise Connop, SLC's senior engagement manager at Thomas Pocklington Trust, shared her personal insights on the impact of this technology: “As someone affected by sight loss, accessible packaging transforms my shopping experience, enabling independence and informed product selection.”

Javier Pita, CEO of NaviLens, also highlighted the broader implications of the partnership: “By integrating NaviLens codes on Müller products, we empower blind and partially sighted individuals to access vital product information independently, significantly improving their overall shopping experience.”

This initiative represents a significant advancement in Müller’s commitment to promoting inclusivity within the consumer goods industry, making everyday shopping accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
