Advances in digital tools are opening doors for Australian growers to reduce export costs, minimize risk of shipment rejection, and simplify export compliance through integrated systems.
The advances in digital tools are playing a pivotal role in transforming the way Australian growers handle export compliance, reducing costs and risks associated with shipment rejections. At the forefront of this transformation is Result Group, which has developed integrated systems to streamline the process of managing export documentation, traceability, and packaging requirements. These systems are designed to simplify the administrative burden and improve accuracy, helping growers better navigate the increasingly complex compliance landscape.
Michael Dossor, general manager at Result Group, highlighted how better-designed tools can remove significant administrative overheads for growers, particularly in export markets. He emphasized the importance of offering growers an intuitive tool that doesn’t add to their workload but actually improves operational efficiency. “Giving them an easy tool that they could actually work with and use and not be a burden to their business is super important,” Dossor says.
The growing complexity of export compliance has been one of the key challenges in recent years. With stricter requirements around documentation, traceability, and reporting, any errors can lead to costly delays or rejections of shipments. Dossor noted that the problem is not a lack of data but how that data is captured, managed, and transferred across the supply chain. This is where integrated digital tools can play a crucial role in reducing the potential for errors and improving data flow.
“If we can give growers a tool that enables them to capture information and automatically upload that to a system, that becomes super important in reducing risks and the potential of shipments being rejected,” Dossor said. This integration is also key to ensuring that growers meet the various compliance requirements needed to export their produce successfully.
Result Group has worked closely with industry bodies, including the Australian Table Grape Association, to develop integrated systems that consolidate multiple processes into a single platform. These systems streamline everything from on-farm data capture to export documentation, reducing duplication and minimizing the risk of human error. The goal is to simplify the process for growers, especially those less familiar with technology, making it easier for them to participate in international trade.
“Growers may find the bureaucracy involved in export forbidding,” Dossor added. “If you give them five different systems to work with, it becomes a barrier. But if you give them one system that does everything they need, it becomes something they can actually adopt.” This approach is crucial not only for improving efficiency but also for ensuring broader market access. As export requirements continue to become more demanding, streamlined systems like these could help more growers engage with international trade.
The changes also reflect a broader shift towards making digital interfaces more user-friendly and accessible. Result Group has redesigned its website to improve the usability of its tools, emphasizing practical application for growers in the field. Dossor stressed that the key is ensuring that the technology serves the needs of the growers without adding to their workload: “It’s about making sure the system works for them, not the other way around.”
Integrating traceability, packaging, and labelling into a single platform brings even greater efficiency. The new system allows data to flow seamlessly from compliance platforms through to printers, eliminating the need for multiple disconnected tools. Result Group utilizes the Loftware platform as middleware to connect traceability systems to labelling hardware. This enables growers to have full visibility across their packhouses, from data capture all the way through to final labelling of products.
“What unintentionally happens is you get into a situation where the equipment guy is saying to the software guy the software’s not working, or the equipment’s not working, and it ends up getting into a back-and-forth,” said Dossor. “We don’t go down that path. We sort that out and we solve that problem.” This integration helps reduce the chances of technical issues that could disrupt the process and improve overall workflow efficiency.
