Rottneros presents its sustainable food packaging solutions at the Cepi Bioeconomy Lab, featuring pulp-based trays designed to reduce plastic and support circular bioeconomy goals.
At the Cepi Bioeconomy Lab in Brussels, Rottneros showcased its eco-friendly food packaging solutions aimed at reducing plastic usage. The star of the exhibit was their Nature by Rottneros wood pulp-based trays, which use less than 10% plastic while maintaining durability and functionality. These trays, sourced from sustainable Nordic forests, offer easy recycling and high barrier protection for food preservation. The design is both microwave- and oven-safe, making it ideal for ready-to-eat meals. This innovation aligns with the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
Attendees learned how these trays reduce plastic waste and meet sustainability goals through a user-friendly design that facilitates recycling. This innovation supports the shift toward a circular bioeconomy and promotes the use of renewable materials in food packaging. The exhibit also highlighted Rottneros’ broader commitment to sustainability, with the company presenting a range of bio-based products designed for industrial-scale production and meeting EU regulations.
The trays' thermoformed pulp surface also provides a superior printing area, reducing the need for extra labels and making them suitable for branding and product information. The participation in the Cepi Bioeconomy Lab underscores Rottneros' leadership in sustainable packaging, contributing to a climate-resilient future by reducing reliance on fossil-based materials.
