Sidel will launch EvoBlow Laser at Drinktec 2025, introducing laser heating for PET packaging to boost efficiency, reduce waste, and enable advanced lightweighting with sustainable performance.

Sidel Unveils EvoBlow Laser Technology to Redefine PET Packaging Performance

Sidel is set to unveil its revolutionary EvoBlow Laser technology at Drinktec 2025, taking place from September 15 to 19 at the Munich Trade Fair Centre. This new laser-powered blowing system for PET packaging marks a major leap forward in efficiency, design flexibility, and sustainability, signaling a departure from decades of reliance on halogen-based heating systems.

With over 45 years of experience in blowing technology, Sidel now aims to reshape the PET packaging industry. Pietro Cassani, Sidel’s president and CEO, emphasized,

“The EvoBlow Laser is a game-changer that will reshape the industry again, setting a new standard for line efficiency and opening new lightweighting possibilities.”

The EvoBlow Laser system replaces conventional halogen ovens with precision laser heating using up to 36 heating lines—far beyond the eight zones typical in legacy systems. This enables precise thermal control, unlocking the ability to create lighter but structurally stronger PET and rPET containers. A key innovation is the development of invisible “power rings” in the bottle structure, which enhance durability without adding material, supporting both lightweighting and performance.

Unlike halogen systems, which are often affected by ambient conditions and require frequent recalibration, EvoBlow Laser operates with exceptional stability. This results in consistent bottle quality across all production runs, reducing operator intervention and cutting down on material waste. It also offers a cold start capability, allowing the system to start production immediately without pre-heating, drastically improving uptime and energy efficiency.

Live speed modulation is another standout feature, allowing producers to adjust production speeds in real time without compromising quality. This flexibility is particularly valuable in a packaging market that demands rapid adaptability and cost-effective operations.

From a sustainability standpoint, the EvoBlow Laser has the potential to be transformative. Its laser precision supports increased use of recycled PET (rPET), as it can better handle material inconsistencies that typically arise in recycled plastics. Moreover, it can reduce preform waste by up to 50%, offering an environmentally and economically advantageous solution.

The technology has already undergone extensive field testing in collaboration with beverage manufacturing giant Refresco. Coert Michielsen, Refresco’s chief supply chain officer, noted,

“After 45 years of halogen technology, we are now entering a new era. I firmly believe that laser oven technology will become the new standard.”

As consumer brands face mounting pressure to cut carbon emissions and reduce plastic use, technologies like EvoBlow Laser represent not only a technical upgrade but a strategic move toward future-ready packaging lines. Sidel’s innovation points to a paradigm shift where performance, sustainability, and operational efficiency converge in the packaging industry.

The upcoming Drinktec 2025 event will likely be a pivotal moment for packaging professionals and manufacturers seeking scalable, efficient, and green solutions for PET packaging production.
