Aldi partners with PANDAS Foundation to launch mental health messaging on Mamia baby wipes, helping parents access support and raising awareness around perinatal wellbeing.
Aldi UK has unveiled a thoughtful and powerful initiative aimed at supporting the emotional wellbeing of parents through a subtle but significant change in its product packaging. In partnership with PANDAS Foundation, a leading UK charity focused on perinatal mental health, Aldi will begin printing mental health support messages directly on its Mamia Sensitive and Extra Sensitive baby wipes.
The initiative, described as a move to "provide comfort and a sense of connection", will feature messages identifying common signs of perinatal mental health challenges, such as:
- Low mood
- Anxiety
- Tearfulness
Accompanying these messages will be a direct signpost to PANDAS Foundation's free helpline and peer support services, offering immediate access to help for struggling parents. This on-pack messaging marks the first time Aldi has used its packaging in this way, making the supermarket one of the few in the UK to integrate mental health advocacy into consumer packaging.
Packaging as a Tool for Empathy and VisibilityThe initiative leverages the everyday visibility of baby wipes packaging to deliver a quiet but impactful message: you are not alone. According to Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK:
"Mental health struggles in parenthood are more common than many realise – but they’re not always easy to talk about. We’ve partnered with PANDAS Foundation to help make support more visible."
Recognising that packaging is often the first or most frequent point of contact for parents during early childhood care, Aldi aims to use this touchpoint to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and provide real-time access to support services.
Annie Belasco, CEO of PANDAS Foundation, echoed this sentiment:
Beyond Packaging: A Multi-Channel Support Approach"This campaign brings together two powerful things: empathy and visibility. So many parents are struggling in silence – and this puts a message of hope directly into their hands."
In addition to the on-pack messaging, Aldi has launched a dedicated online resource outlining perinatal mental health symptoms and linking to a wide array of PANDAS support tools. These include:
- A free helpline
- WhatsApp and email support
- Peer-led community groups
- Social media engagement for ongoing connection
Aldi is also investing internally by sharing resources and training with its employees to further promote understanding and awareness of perinatal mental health among its workforce.
Humanising Packaging in the Retail SpaceThis campaign reflects a growing trend in the packaging industry: using packaging as a platform for social impact. Traditionally focused on function and branding, packaging is increasingly being leveraged to communicate emotional and psychological support—particularly in sectors where the end user may be facing isolation or stress, such as new parenthood.
In this case, Aldi’s Mamia baby wipes become more than just a product—they become a vehicle for empathy, helping break the silence around perinatal mental health. By combining accessibility, visibility, and trust, Aldi sets a precedent for how consumer goods can serve public good while deepening brand loyalty.
