Georgia-Pacific acquires Anchor Packaging to boost its food packaging operations with advanced thermoforming and ready-to-eat solutions, enhancing the Dixie brand's portfolio.

Georgia-Pacific Acquires Anchor Packaging to Expand Thermoforming and Food-To-Go Capabilities

Georgia-Pacific has announced the acquisition of Anchor Packaging, a leading North American producer of rigid food containers and cling film. This strategic move significantly expands Georgia-Pacific’s capabilities in food packaging and enhances its position in the fast-growing market for convenient, food-to-go solutions.

Anchor Packaging brings a deep well of thermoforming expertise and a robust portfolio of innovative packaging products, including its well-known Crisp Food Technologies® containers. These products are specifically designed to maintain the heat and crispiness of prepared foods, making them ideal for restaurants, convenience stores, and grocery retailers catering to modern on-the-go consumers.

According to Georgia-Pacific, the deal will integrate Anchor's manufacturing facilities located in Arkansas and Wisconsin into its network, adding considerable capacity and technical know-how. Anchor, founded in 1963 and headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, has been owned by private equity firm TJC since 2019.

“Anchor Packaging will be a significant addition to Georgia-Pacific's consumer products platform with capabilities that will especially complement our Dixie business,”
stated David Duncan, executive vice president of Georgia-Pacific’s Consumer Products Group. The Dixie brand is a longstanding player in the disposable tableware space, and Anchor’s portfolio provides a synergistic boost in the adjacent rigid container segment.

Anchor CEO Jeff Wolff expressed strong support for the acquisition, noting it will allow the company to expand its product lines, strengthen its supply chain, and accelerate innovation.

“We look forward to delivering even greater value to our customers and stakeholders,”
he said.

Fernando González, president of the Dixie division, highlighted the acquisition as a transformative milestone.

“This is a major step in building a platform for growth that aligns with our vision to be a preferred partner for innovative food and beverage packaging solutions.”

From a strategic perspective, the deal addresses the growing market demand for ready-to-eat and takeaway meals. As consumers increasingly favor speed, convenience, and sustainability, packaging plays a crucial role in delivering quality experiences. Anchor’s tamper-evident and sustainable packaging innovations further align with Georgia-Pacific’s commitment to environmental stewardship and consumer safety.

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval and standard closing conditions, with finalization expected later this year. While financial details have not been disclosed, the implications are clear: Georgia-Pacific is doubling down on its position in the food packaging arena, leveraging Anchor's thermoforming strength to deliver more flexible, high-performance solutions to market.

Anchor Packaging currently operates facilities in Paragould, Marmaduke, and Jonesboro, Arkansas; Janesville, Wisconsin; and San Juan, Argentina. These assets will help Georgia-Pacific scale its offerings and serve a broader customer base across North and South America.

With this acquisition, Georgia-Pacific is not just expanding geographically or operationally—it’s making a bold statement about the future of food packaging: customization, performance, and sustainability must go hand in hand.
