SCA names Per Funkquist as Vice President Sustainability, highlighting his extensive forestry experience and commitment to sustainable practices starting September 1, 2024.
SCA has announced the appointment of Per Funkquist as their new Vice President Sustainability, effective September 1, 2024. Funkquist brings a wealth of experience to this role, having spent over two decades in various forestry and forest industry positions. He holds a degree in forestry from SLU – the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and is transitioning from his current position as Director of Communication and Sustainability Procurement & Wood Supply at Billerud.
Funkquist (pictured left) expressed his enthusiasm for joining SCA, Europe's largest private forest owner. He emphasized the importance of sustainable forestry practices, stating, "The forest and the resource-efficient use of raw materials create the conditions for sustainability, growing forests with good conditions for biodiversity, and increasingly greater climate benefits. Therefore, it will be very exciting to work at SCA, which through its forestry holdings creates great benefits for both Sweden and the local communities in which the company operates."
SCA’s commitment to sustainability is integral to their operations. The company's strategy focuses on maximizing the value created both from their forest holdings and the renewable products derived from these raw materials. Anders Edholm, SVP Sustainability and Communications at SCA, highlighted the strategic importance of Funkquist’s role. He remarked, "For SCA, sustainability, both socially and in the forest and through the benefits of our products, is a completely natural and integrated part of the business. Therefore, it feels very positive that we have managed to recruit Per who has extensive and solid experience in these complex and important issues."
Funkquist’s extensive background in forestry and sustainability, along with his various trustee positions within the sector, positions him well to lead SCA's sustainability initiatives. His appointment underscores SCA’s dedication to promoting sustainable practices and their role in fostering biodiversity and climate benefits through responsible forestry management.
In his new role, Funkquist will be instrumental in advancing SCA’s sustainability agenda. His leadership is expected to enhance the company’s contributions to both environmental stewardship and community development, reinforcing SCA's position as a leader in sustainable forestry and renewable products.
