Saica Group, a leading provider of sustainable paper and packaging solutions, has reached a significant milestone by acquiring Schumacher Packaging’s Polish subsidiary. This acquisition includes two state-of-the-art corrugated board plants located in Bydgoszcz and Wroclaw, along with two modernized paper mills in Grudziadz and Myszków. In addition, three service centers are part of this comprehensive deal, subject to approval by Polish anti-trust authorities.

Schumacher Packaging, known for its innovative and technologically advanced packaging solutions, employs 1,540 people across its Polish sites, which generated a turnover of 327 million euros in 2023. The integration of these facilities is expected to enhance Saica Group's production capacity significantly, adding 440,000 tonnes of paper and 535 million square meters of corrugated board packaging annually.

Both companies are committed to advancing climate-neutral packaging solutions using renewable raw materials. This acquisition aligns with Saica’s strategic vision outlined in their Saica 2025 plan, which focuses on business growth and sustainable development. Susana Alejandro, President of Saica Group, emphasized the cultural and operational synergy between the two family-owned businesses, promising a seamless integration process.

The acquisition marks a strategic expansion for Saica Group into Poland, Europe’s sixth-largest economy, enhancing its geographical coverage and reinforcing its position in the European market. Schumacher Packaging's CEO, Björn Schumacher, expressed confidence in the transition, highlighting the independent operational structure of the Polish subsidiary which ensures minimal disruption to their ongoing activities.

This move follows Saica’s previous ventures in Poland, including a joint venture with Thimm Group and the acquisition of Fox Recykling in Gdynia. The enhanced capabilities and extended reach within the Polish market are expected to drive substantial growth and innovation in sustainable packaging solutions.
