In mid-November, it was announced that Smurfit Kappa plans to invest $68 million and generate 200 new jobs in Anderson County, SC. The company is currently exploring the acquisition of a 259,000 sq ft facility in Anderson, marking its inaugural venture in South Carolina.
"As a global company, Smurfit Kappa has various options for establishing new facilities. We acknowledge the importance of this project and are confident that our business-friendly economic environment will affirm South Carolina as the ideal choice," stated State Secretary of Commerce, Harry M. Lightsey III.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development granted approval for job development credits associated with this initiative on Friday, November 17.
Brett Sanders, vice-chairman of Anderson County Council, expressed, "We are delighted to welcome Smurfit Kappa to Anderson County, South Carolina. This project is poised to significantly contribute to the local economy and create fresh opportunities for our residents. We eagerly anticipate the positive impact this new company will have on our region."
