Socopet and Pezzutti form new packaging group

Italian packaging companies Socopet and Pezzutti Group have joined forces to create Socopet Group, a new industrial business designed to strengthen their combined position in food and consumer packaging.

The new company has been operational since 1 July 2026, with its main production base in Rivalta Scrivia in Piedmont. Socopet Group starts with share capital of €4 million, approximately 15,000 square metres of production space and 27 employees, with plans to expand its workforce as new projects move forward.

Partnership combines complementary technologies

The transaction brings together two different areas of plastics processing expertise. Socopet specialises in blow-moulded PET packaging, while Pezzutti Group has extensive capabilities in injection moulding and produces containers and components for the food packaging sector.

This combination is expected to allow the new group to offer customers a wider portfolio, including bottles, jars, caps, trays and other packaging accessories through a more integrated production structure.

Socopet builds on specialist PET technology

Socopet was founded in 2015 and has focused on recyclable and lower-impact PET packaging. Its technologies include SocoJars, a PET solution developed to withstand filling temperatures of around 80°C to 85°C while providing oxygen-barrier properties for food applications.

The company has also developed Semi Aseptic Filling technology for products such as tomato sauces, aiming to reduce the need for traditional pasteurisation while maintaining product protection.

Pezzutti adds injection moulding scale

Pezzutti Group brings significantly greater industrial scale to the partnership. The company employs around 330 people and operates more than 160 injection moulding machines across four production facilities.

Its food packaging division produces thin-wall containers using technologies including injection moulding and in-mould labelling, with applications across ice cream, dairy and other food categories. The company also works with recycled, bio-circular and renewable materials.

New group targets broader customer needs

One of the objectives behind the integration is to respond to customers that increasingly prefer to source several packaging components from the same supplier. Socopet previously focused mainly on bottles and jars but regularly received requests for closures, trays and related accessories.

By combining its blow-moulding expertise with Pezzutti’s injection capabilities, the new company aims to provide a more complete packaging portfolio and strengthen existing relationships with food manufacturers.

Investment to focus on R&D and production

Socopet Group plans to invest in research, innovation and new production lines, with the objective of significantly increasing the size of the existing Socopet operation over the coming years.

New machinery has already been introduced at the Rivalta Scrivia site, while additional projects are being evaluated to broaden the range of packaging produced locally.

Italian packaging sector continues to consolidate

The creation of Socopet Group reflects a wider trend of consolidation across the European packaging industry, as manufacturers seek greater scale, broader technology portfolios and stronger investment capacity.

For Socopet and Pezzutti, the combination creates an opportunity to integrate PET blow moulding and injection-moulded packaging within a single industrial platform while continuing to invest in recyclable materials, production efficiency and new packaging technologies.
