Discover Retal Plastec's sustainable growth journey in Italy's booming beverage packaging sector. With a focus on innovation and customer satisfaction, they lead with stability and progress, blending technology and environmental responsibility for a brighter future.

Retal Plastec: Sustaining Growth and Innovation in Italy's Booming Beverage Packaging Sector

The Italian mineral water industry, one of Europe's leading bottled water exporters, is poised for significant growth in the next five years. This expansion is driven by Italians consuming more bottled water per capita than any other European market. Additionally, with the Italian bottled fruit and vegetable juice market already at €1.6 billion (~US$1.7 billion), the beverage packaging sector in Italy is experiencing a period of advancement.

To meet the escalating demand for preforms and blown bottles, along with suitable closures, a plastic packaging producer is strategically investing in new technology for sustainable growth. Sustainability is a core principle guiding decisions at Retal Plastec, encompassing both environmental and business considerations.

Managed consistently by a largely unchanged team since its establishment in 2006, coupled with support from its multinational group owner Retal, Retal Plastec represents a blend of stability and progress. Located in Ascoli Piceno, Italy, the facility employs 20 people to produce preforms and bottles. Originally focused on PET bottle manufacturing, Retal Plastec expanded into preform production in 2014 in response to evolving customer demands.

Acquired by the multinational Retal group in 2016, Retal Plastec, as the second plant in Italy and one of 13 across nine countries in Europe and North America, installed its second injection molding machine in 2017. Continuous investment has enabled Retal Plastec to maintain strong customer relationships, with many clients remaining loyal since 2006.

Noemi Gatti, finance controller at Retal Plastec, emphasizes the role of continual investment in the operation's long-term success. The company takes pride in its relationships with customers, offering a complete packaging solution and maintaining regular communication.

Retal Plastec enhances its capabilities with modern equipment, including the latest blower machine chosen for its excellent service track record. With a high level of automation and a focus on caring for both personnel and equipment, the company recently invested in a new SIAPI blower machine for smaller lots of customized production.

The new blower machine facilitates mold changes in less than two hours, enabling quick production of small volumes of specific or customized bottles. This flexibility is crucial, as customers value the speed, reliability, and agility provided by Retal Plastec. The company can manufacture bespoke bottles for various sectors, offering customization in shape, neck finish, color, and a wide range of closures.

Retal Plastec's ability to provide a diverse range of closures is attributed to its buying volumes from suppliers that do not cater to smaller customers. Acting as a reseller for closures ensures a complete service for customers. The energy-efficient SIAPI blower machine aligns with Retal Plastec's commitment to sustainability, featuring reduced energy requirements and ease of maintenance.

Giampaolo Gatti, general manager at Retal Plastec, underscores the company's mission since its inception in 2006: "You choose the shape, we will work out how to blow it." The addition of the new blower machine represents another stride forward for Retal Plastec in delivering on its goal of meeting customer needs through teamwork, equipment utilization, market understanding, and a robust network.
