Zeus Packaging and Progroup form UK partnership

Zeus Packaging and Progroup have agreed a long-term partnership at Progroup’s Ellesmere Port site in the United Kingdom, creating an integrated corrugated packaging operation designed to combine sheetboard production and converting within the same location.

Production is scheduled to begin in October 2026, with Zeus consolidating a significant share of its UK manufacturing volumes at the site. The operation is expected to become the company’s central production hub in the country.

Output to exceed 100 million square metres annually

The Ellesmere Port operation is expected to reach annual production of at least 100 million square metres of corrugated packaging.

Zeus will use the existing production hall and converting machinery, with equipment being adapted where necessary to support the company’s requirements and growing UK customer base.

Converting operation connects directly to corrugator

A key feature of the partnership is the physical connection between Zeus’s converting operation and Progroup’s corrugated sheetfeeder plant.

A conveyor bridge transfers corrugated sheetboard directly between the two operations, eliminating the need to transport material by truck between a separate corrugator and converting facility.

Packaging park model reduces logistics

Progroup describes the arrangement as a return to the original packaging park concept for its PW12 site. The model places corrugated sheetboard production and converting alongside one another to reduce internal supply-chain distances.

Shorter transport routes can lower logistics costs, reduce handling and improve delivery reliability while also helping to decrease the carbon emissions associated with moving semi-finished material between facilities.

Integrated supply supports production flexibility

Direct access to corrugated sheetboard can also improve manufacturing flexibility by reducing the time between board production and converting.

For packaging converters, more immediate material availability can make it easier to respond to changes in order volumes, production schedules and customer specifications without relying on longer external transport flows.

Zeus targets continued UK growth

Zeus Packaging describes the UK as a strategically important market and sees the new production structure as a way to support further expansion.

The company says the close connection to the onsite corrugator provides both supply security and the flexibility required to support its growth ambitions across the British packaging market.

Progroup maintains supply to wider customer base

Although Zeus will become a major partner at the Ellesmere Port site, Progroup says it will continue supplying its other UK customers through its existing international mill and sheetboard network.

The arrangement therefore adds an integrated converting partner to the location without changing the wider role of the corrugated sheetfeeder plant within Progroup’s customer network.

Corrugated supply chains move towards greater integration

The partnership reflects a wider trend towards closer integration between board production and converting as packaging manufacturers look to reduce transport, improve supply security and shorten production lead times.

By locating converting directly next to corrugated sheetboard production, Zeus Packaging and Progroup aim to create a more efficient manufacturing model capable of combining high output with reduced logistics and stronger supply-chain resilience.
