Packaging specialist ALPLA Group commemorated the inauguration of its latest production facility in Vlotho-Exter, Germany, amidst the presence of dignitaries from political and business spheres. Spanning an investment of approximately 30 million euros, the Austrian conglomerate has revamped its premises and erected an additional production and warehousing edifice.
This augmentation aims to bolster long-term competitiveness. At the Vlotho-Exter site, a workforce of 185 employees fabricates PET bottles and preforms, primarily catering to local mineral water enterprises. Utilizing PET recyclates from ALPLA's internal recycling plant in nearby Bad Salzuflen, the production chain underscores sustainability. Moreover, ALPLA crafts reusable bottles for beverages and cosmetics at the same location.
"The investments underscore our steadfast commitment to this locale. Vlotho-Exter stands as a pivotal competence and production hub within the ALPLA Group, a facet we're resolutely fortifying in alignment with our global sustainability agenda," remarks Georg Pescher, ALPLA's Managing Director in Germany. ALPLA CEO Philipp Lehner echoes this sentiment, affirming the future of plastic packaging hinges upon acknowledging extant challenges and championing higher standards in reduction, reuse, and recycling.
Political Dignitaries Attend
The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed members from the German Bundestag, the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament, as well as local figures like Jürgen Müller, District Administrator of Herford, and Rocco Wilken, Mayor of Vlotho.
"We're gratified by the recognition from political quarters, affirming our stature as a premier employer, training facilitator, and economic entity in this region. Additionally, our pioneering efforts in transitioning towards a circular economy resonate positively," expresses Georg Pescher. He further acknowledges the state parliament's resolve to position North Rhine-Westphalia as a trailblazer in circular economy initiatives concerning plastics, pledging ALPLA's support and expertise toward this endeavor.
