Amazon achieves a milestone in renewable energy in the UK with its 50th carbon-free project, the Chirmorie Wind Farm, marking it as the country’s largest corporate buyer of carbon-free energy for the fifth consecutive year.

The Chirmorie Wind Farm, developed by egg Power in South Ayrshire, adds 90 MW of wind energy, pushing Amazon’s total UK carbon-free energy capacity beyond 1 GW – enough to power over 1.2 million households. This PPA represents the UK’s largest onshore wind agreement to date.

Amazon’s UK renewable portfolio now includes nine offsite wind and solar farms, along with 41 onsite solar installations across logistics centers and other facilities. Together, these projects contribute to local energy security, modernise infrastructure, and supply new carbon-free electricity to the national grid, benefiting both Amazon operations and broader public consumption.

Economic analysis by Frontier Economics highlights that Amazon’s low-carbon investments in the UK (£3.5 billion between 2021-2025) have supported up to 34,000 jobs and added up to £2 billion in economic value. Acting as an anchor offtaker, Amazon enables renewable projects to secure funding and reach deployment, catalyzing growth in the UK renewable sector.

Beyond operational benefits, these initiatives support energy security by reducing reliance on imported gas, stabilising electricity costs, and fostering a domestic renewable energy industry. The investment also aligns with Amazon’s wider UK commitment of £40 billion from 2025 to 2027, funding infrastructure, innovation, and employment.

Globally, Amazon has launched over 700 renewable energy projects across 28 countries, creating the world’s largest corporate carbon-free energy portfolio, capable of powering the equivalent of 36 million European households annually.
