Amcor partners with NOVA Chemicals to drive sustainable packaging, leveraging recycled polyethylene resin for circularity. A joint commitment to a greener future
Amcor, a global leader in responsible packaging solutions, has announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NOVA Chemicals Corporation for the procurement of mechanically recycled polyethylene resin (rPE) to be used in flexible packaging films. This aligns with Amcor's dedication to advancing packaging circularity.
Under the agreement, Amcor will source SYNDIGO™ rPE resin from NOVA Chemicals' forthcoming mechanical recycling facility in Connersville, Indiana, expected to be operational by 2025. The facility is a significant expansion of NOVA Chemicals' Circular Solutions business.
Fred Stephan, President of Amcor Flexibles North America, views this as a crucial step towards achieving their goal of 30% recycled material usage in their global portfolio by 2030. Incorporating rPE into flexible packaging films not only supports brand owners in meeting recycled content targets but also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and managing plastic waste sustainably.
Collaborating with NOVA Chemicals, Greg DeKunder, Vice President of NOVA Circular Solutions, emphasizes the importance of industry collaboration in reshaping plastics for a better future. Both companies share a commitment to advancing global packaging circularity.
NOVA Chemicals aims to expand its recycling presence across North America in the coming years, striving to achieve 30% of total PE sales from products containing recycled content, reinforcing its leadership in the industry.
