Amcor survey of 2,041 consumers in Germany, Netherlands, Spain, and the UK shows 62% prefer nuts in recyclable packaging, with willingness to pay more, supporting Amcor’s AmPrima mono-material solutions.

Amcor Study Shows Recyclable Packaging Drives Nut Purchases in Europe

Amcor research finds recyclable packaging strongly influences consumer nut purchases across Europe.

In a survey of 2,041 nut purchasers in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK, 62% of respondents said they would be more likely to buy a product in recyclable packaging. The effect was highest in the UK (70%) and Spain (67%), particularly among consumers aged 18–35. Similarly, 60% said packaging containing recycled content would increase purchase likelihood, rising to 69% in the UK.

While taste (23%), price (20%), and health/nutrition (17%) remain the top purchase drivers, recyclable packaging was cited by 20% as the sustainability claim most likely to influence their decision. Furthermore, 62% of respondents indicated a willingness to pay at least 3% more for recyclable packaging.

The study aligns with upcoming regulatory requirements, including modulated Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees in the UK from 2026 and the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which mandates most packaging to be designed for recycling by 2030.

Sarah Neerkorn, Amcor’s market insights manager, highlighted the growing influence of sustainability on purchasing behavior, noting that Amcor’s AmPrima mono-material solutions for nuts offer flexible, recycle-ready packaging across Europe to meet evolving consumer and regulatory demands.
