Borealis, a global leader in advanced polyolefins and circular solutions, has taken a significant step in the circular economy with the launch of its new LLDPE (linear low-density polyethylene) packaging grade featuring an impressive 85% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. This development marks a milestone for both the company and the broader packaging industry, as it demonstrates that high-performance flexible packaging can now be achieved with substantially reduced reliance on virgin plastics.
Part of Borealis’ EverMinds™ platform—its innovation engine focused on advancing circular plastics solutions—the new LLDPE grade has been engineered specifically for film packaging applications. It is suitable for collation shrink, stretch hood, and other secondary packaging formats where mechanical strength and processing performance are essential. The resin is designed to be processed in the same equipment used for virgin grades, making it a drop-in solution for converters looking to lower their carbon footprint.
The real innovation lies in the composition: the 85% PCR content is derived from carefully selected and sorted post-consumer waste streams, ensuring consistent quality and minimizing contamination.
