Coveris unveils a new range of pre-made block bottom bags made from certified recyclable paper, catering to the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions in the industry. Discover how these bags combine functionality, aesthetics, and environmental responsibility.
Coveris has introduced a new range of pre-made block bottom bags made from certified recyclable, mono-material paper, aiming to combine premium aesthetics with sustainability and product protection. These bags have been designed to address the growing demand for convenient, attractive packaging solutions that minimize environmental impact.
The bags hold an international certificate from the Interseroh+ Recycling Alliance and have been rigorously tested at the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging to ensure their recyclability under existing systems. Composed of 100% paper, these bags offer full recyclability while effectively safeguarding the products contained within.
Melinda Bonamour, Market Development Director of Paper Flexibles at Coveris, underscores the company's commitment to sustainability: "At Coveris, we built our entire sustainability strategy around the vision of No Waste as we believe that fighting waste in all its forms is the driving force of a more sustainable future. With our new block bottom bags, we want to emphasize the need for recyclable, convenient, and premium-looking paper solutions."
Designed for easy integration into existing packing lines, these bags come in a range of sizes with a maximum capacity of 4kg. They are suitable for various contents and applications and offer customizable finishing options, including hot foil embossing, high gloss or matt finishes, metallization, and transparent windows.
Bonamour highlights the versatility and attractiveness of these bags: "As a result, they offer an attractive alternative for premium, long shelf life, and ambient products. These pre-made mono-material paper bags answer food brands’ demand for effective, attractive packaging with a sustainable look and feel."
This development aligns with a broader trend in the industry towards sustainable packaging solutions. Iceland Foods, for instance, has introduced reusable, recyclable carrier bags made from Paptic’s wood fibre-based material, offering a moisture-resistant and foldable option for carrying heavy, wet, and frozen goods.
Consumer brands like M&S and Walkers are also making strides towards sustainability by transitioning to recyclable paper packaging. M&S has replaced plastic wrapping for its Jersey Royal potatoes with 100% recyclable paper, while Walkers has switched its Snack A Jacks multipacks to paper outer bags, significantly reducing annual virgin plastic consumption.
Coveris's introduction of recyclable paper block bottom bags underscores the company's commitment to sustainability and innovation, offering consumers and brands a viable alternative to traditional packaging materials that prioritizes environmental responsibility without compromising on functionality or aesthetics.
