Denmaur celebrates selling 200,000 tonnes of Carbon Balanced Paper since 2016, supporting the World Land Trust and promoting sustainability in the print industry.

Denmaur Reaches 200,000 Tonnes Milestone in Carbon Balanced Paper Sales

Denmaur has proudly reached the significant milestone of selling 200,000 tonnes of Carbon Balanced Paper since the adoption of this initiative into their comprehensive carbon policy in 2016. This achievement underscores the company's commitment to sustainability and its leadership in the UK national paper and board merchant sector.

Carbon Balanced Paper offers a straightforward solution for organizations to offset the emissions associated with their paper usage in media communications. This initiative has become a hallmark in the industry, supporting the World Land Trust (WLT) in its mission to protect, conserve, and regenerate vital forests and biodiversity globally. The program also aids in safeguarding the habitats of numerous critically endangered species.

Danny Doogan, Marketing and Sustainability Director at Denmaur, emphasized the strategic alignment of the Carbon Balanced Paper initiative with the company's values. “Carbon Balanced Paper already had some traction within paper and print when we adopted it in 2016. Its projects are based on the REDD+ framework which was an obvious fit for us, bearing in mind the product we sell. Moreover, their list of notable patrons includes Sir David Attenborough, so we knew partnering with the WLT was absolutely the right choice for us.”

Since achieving their 100,000 tonnes milestone in March 2022, Denmaur has impressively doubled this figure in just over two years.* This rapid growth highlights the increasing importance of sustainability in the print industry and the rising demand from end-users to minimize their environmental impact. Doogan added, “**The growth of our Carbon Balanced Paper sales is definitely a reaction to how the print industry is continuing to raise its sustainability profile; but it’s also reflective of how end-users increasingly want to reduce their impacts and promote the sustainability of their own printed media.”

Carbon balancing serves as a complementary strategy for organizations committed to carbon reduction and net zero goals. Despite scrutiny regarding its benefits, Denmaur, an SBTi validated business, confidently incorporates the WLT’s Carbon Balanced programme into its carbon action strategy. This approach focuses on the continuous reduction and offsetting of its carbon footprint.

Paul Opie, Partnership Director for Carbon Co, praised Denmaur's efforts, stating, “The Carbon Balanced Paper and Print programme gives leading, environmentally focused businesses in the print and paper industry an essential tool to deliver positive action today. Denmaur’s position and commitment to sustainability in the industry goes well beyond accounting for its own business impacts by providing publishers, brands and consumers with a way to meet their own sustainability objectives when using print media.”

Catherine Barnard, CEO of World Land Trust, commended Denmaur on their achievement. She remarked, “The global climate is changing at an unprecedented rate due to human-created climate change. So we are delighted to see that Denmaur celebrate this milestone as part of their contribution to society’s transition to a low-carbon economy.”

Denmaur’s accomplishment not only highlights their dedication to environmental stewardship but also sets a benchmark for the industry, inspiring other organizations to prioritize sustainability in their operations.
