Dentsply Sirona pledges to make all packaging recyclable by 2030, advancing its global sustainability strategy and responding to rising environmental expectations in healthcare.
Dentsply Sirona, a global leader in dental solutions, has announced a bold commitment to sustainability in packaging: the company aims to ensure that 100% of its packaging is recyclable by the year 2030. This initiative is a core component of its broader 2030 Sustainability Strategy, which seeks to reduce environmental impact across its global operations and value chain.
Currently, approximately 85% of the company’s packaging materials are already recyclable, signaling strong progress toward its goal. The company now plans to accelerate efforts by eliminating non-recyclable components, optimizing packaging design, and collaborating with partners to ensure compatibility with real-world recycling infrastructure.
Simon Campion, CEO of Dentsply Sirona, emphasized the strategic importance of this commitment: “Sustainability is a business imperative. Our customers are demanding solutions that are not only high-performing but also environmentally responsible. Making our packaging fully recyclable is a tangible way to reduce waste and contribute to a healthier planet.”
The company’s roadmap includes transitioning to mono-material packaging, phasing out difficult-to-recycle plastics, and reducing excess packaging volume. By working closely with suppliers and industry groups, Dentsply Sirona aims to ensure that its packaging meets recyclability standards not just in theory, but in practice — in real recycling facilities around the world.
“We are focused on creating sustainable solutions without compromising the quality and sterility our customers rely on,” said
, Vice President of ESG and Sustainability at Dentsply Sirona. “This is about driving systemic change across dental healthcare packaging.”
This packaging commitment is just one part of a broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework the company has adopted. Dentsply Sirona has also pledged to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, reduce water and energy usage, and improve material circularity in product design and manufacturing.
The move comes at a time when sustainability expectations are intensifying across the healthcare and medical device sectors. Regulatory pressure is rising, and customers — from dental practices to distributors — are increasingly prioritizing suppliers who align with environmental goals.
With operations in more than 40 countries and a wide range of packaging formats — from sterilization wraps to shipping cartons — the company’s transition to 100% recyclable packaging will require a coordinated global effort. However, Dentsply Sirona sees this challenge as an opportunity to innovate and lead within the dental industry.
In the years ahead, the company will report on its progress through annual sustainability disclosures and ESG performance metrics. These will include recyclability benchmarks, material composition analysis, and customer engagement results. By transparently communicating its journey, Dentsply Sirona hopes to inspire both accountability and collaboration across the dental supply chain.
As the global conversation around packaging waste and circular economy intensifies, Dentsply Sirona’s commitment reinforces the idea that even highly specialized industries can make impactful, scalable contributions to a more sustainable future.
