Detmold Group has reported continued progress toward its sustainability objectives, detailing measures implemented over the past year to reduce emissions and improve material sourcing across its global packaging operations.

The Australian-owned packaging company has established a sustainability framework designed to support customer and consumer decision-making around packaging choices. The strategy focuses on emissions reduction, waste management, circular economy principles, and improved governance and environmental reporting.

Emissions reduction and energy efficiency

Over the last 12 months, Detmold Group achieved reductions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions through a combination of operational improvements and energy-efficiency initiatives. These included the electrification of forklifts, upgrades to lighting systems, building and manufacturing improvements, a gradual transition toward electric vehicles, and increased procurement of renewable electricity.

Renewable energy generation has been expanded through rooftop solar installations at selected sites in Australia and China. Solar systems are already operational at Regency Park in South Australia and at the company’s Heshan facility in China. An additional solar installation in China is currently under development and is expected to further reduce emissions once operational.

Responsible material sourcing

In the 2025 financial year, Detmold Group reported that 71% of its raw fibre materials were sourced from responsibly managed forests supported by Chain of Custody certification. During the same period, the company transitioned its product range to materials with no intentionally added PFAS, addressing growing regulatory and consumer concerns around chemical safety.

The company stated that 88% of its stock range is now classified as reusable, recyclable, or compostable, reflecting its continued shift toward circular packaging solutions aligned with global sustainability expectations.

Waste management and circularity

Detmold Group is also advancing its approach to waste management by developing a new waste data tracking process to improve visibility and performance across operations. According to the company, close to 85% of its operational waste is currently being recovered through reuse, recycling, or other recovery pathways, supporting its circular economy objectives.

Transparency and environmental reporting

As part of its sustainability reporting activities, Detmold Group completed its second submission to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an internationally recognised environmental disclosure framework. The company achieved a ‘C’ rating, representing an improvement on its previous assessment and indicating progress in measuring and managing climate-related impacts.

Detmold Group stated that it will continue to implement its sustainability framework across all operations while monitoring performance against its stated environmental targets. The company emphasised its intention to combine transparency with practical action as sustainability expectations from customers, regulators, and consumers continue to rise.
