DS Smith Invests in Sustainable Packaging Solutions

In response to the rising demand for sustainable packaging alternatives, DS Smith is enhancing its Eerbeek packaging plant in the Netherlands. The company has introduced the cutting-edge Mitsubishi EVOL 4-colour flexo folder gluer, which is currently in its startup phase. This state-of-the-art machinery is equipped with an advanced automatic inline error detection system, ensuring superior quality control.

The innovative computer-controlled technology meticulously examines printing and gluing processes, elevating the precision of the machinery. Moreover, it enhances the accuracy of die-cutting lines, resulting in impeccably folded and packaged products. By integrating these advancements, DS Smith aims to bolster its production quality, elevate customer satisfaction levels, minimize waste, and reduce energy consumption.

This significant investment aligns with DS Smith's commitment to forging closer collaborations with customers. The objective is to secure future volumes, streamline production workflows, and guarantee timely deliveries, thereby fortifying the resilience of the supply chain. Ultimately, these efforts will enhance service levels and empower DS Smith customers to execute their go-to-market strategies effectively in the long run.

Philip Bautil, Managing Director of DS Smith Benelux, expressed his enthusiasm about this venture, stating, "We are thrilled to take this new step in our ongoing commitment to excellence and sustainability. This investment underscores our dedication to delivering high-quality packaging solutions that meet the needs of our customers while contributing to a more sustainable future. With this new investment, we are continuing to meet our customers' supply chain challenges and respond to their requirements for growth. We are still seeing an increased demand for products that require sustainable plastic replacement and fibre-based solutions. It is always our intention to inspire and invite our customers to innovate and imagine ways in which we can jointly develop packaging innovations with circularity and the circular economy at the heart of our present and future focused discussions."
