Fasten Packaging has been awarded a Gold Pentaward for its sustainable packaging concept, ONE, which merges design innovation with environmental responsibility. Made of recyclable polypropylene, ONE reduces waste, eliminates separate parts, and allows branding options that maintain eco-friendliness. This award-winning design exemplifies the future of sustainable packaging in the beauty industry.
Fasten Packaging has achieved a remarkable milestone, securing a Gold Pentaward for its revolutionary packaging concept, ONE. This recent innovation in sustainable packaging exemplifies Fasten’s commitment to merging design aesthetics with environmental responsibility, marking a significant step in packaging solutions for the beauty industry.
ONE introduces a new approach to sustainable packaging by eliminating separate parts, such as caps, and minimizing material waste. The design incorporates a mono-material structure made entirely of polypropylene (PP), which facilitates recycling processes and aligns with global trends toward single-material packaging for better waste management. By employing a single material, Fasten ensures that the entire packaging can be easily recycled, reducing the environmental footprint of each unit.
One of the unique features of the ONE concept is the option to integrate post-consumer recycled (PCR) polypropylene into the packaging, adding another layer of sustainability. Fasten, a part of the Innovative Beauty Group (IBG), crafted this design to meet European Union packaging directives, ensuring that it complies with the most recent environmental standards. Additionally, the packaging features an innovative neck structure designed to prevent residue buildup, which not only enhances user experience but also contributes to the package's overall sustainability by reducing waste.
Besides its sustainable properties, the ONE packaging concept provides numerous branding and aesthetic possibilities. The light-colored design facilitates easy detection during recycling processes, which supports the circular economy by simplifying sorting and recycling. Furthermore, Fasten has reduced ink usage by opting for an embossed logo directly molded onto the packaging, providing brand visibility while maintaining eco-friendly practices. This minimalist yet striking design appeals to consumers who value both eco-conscious products and a modern aesthetic, meeting the growing demand for products that combine sustainability with style.
The Pentawards, founded in 2007, serves as one of the leading global platforms for celebrating innovation in packaging design. This year, its 18th edition attracted over 2,000 entries from 62 countries, highlighting the diverse and dynamic nature of packaging advancements worldwide. The award winners were honored during a gala ceremony in London on October 25, bringing together some of the most creative minds in the industry.
Ilja Zutt, Managing Director of Fasten Packaging, expressed his pride in the achievement, stating, “Winning this award is a testament to our team’s dedication to creating packaging solutions that keep pushing the limits of what is possible in beauty, both aesthetically and environmentally.” He further emphasized that the ONE concept showcases how innovation can simplify packaging processes, lower environmental impact, and still deliver an appealing, functional design tailored to contemporary consumer needs.
As the packaging industry continues to evolve, innovations like Fasten's ONE represent an important shift toward sustainable, aesthetically pleasing packaging that meets regulatory standards and consumer expectations. With the flexibility for direct printing, a universal design that can accommodate a variety of brands, and a structure built for ease of recycling, ONE positions itself as a versatile solution for brands aiming to emphasize their environmental commitments alongside their unique identities.
