October 31, 2025 — In a powerful step toward environmental restoration, Graphic Packaging International (GPI) has announced a global partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation to support large-scale reforestation and ecosystem recovery projects across multiple continents. The initiative reinforces GPI’s commitment to sustainable sourcing and its vision of a future where packaging and nature coexist in balance.

Advancing Circularity Through Reforestation

The collaboration is focused on replanting trees in regions most affected by deforestation, including areas in North America, Latin America, and Europe. These efforts will help restore biodiversity, improve soil health, and enhance local climate resilience — key components in creating a circular and sustainable paper packaging supply chain.

“Trees are the foundation of our renewable packaging materials,” said Michael P. Doss, President and CEO of Graphic Packaging International. “Our partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation allows us to give back to the environments and communities that sustain our business while reinforcing the natural cycles that make fiber-based packaging possible.”

Scaling Global Impact

Through this partnership, GPI will contribute to planting millions of trees annually, directly supporting the Arbor Day Foundation’s mission to plant 500 million trees worldwide by 2030. Each project is strategically selected to deliver measurable environmental outcomes, such as carbon sequestration, watershed protection, and wildlife habitat restoration.

The initiative also aligns with GPI’s Vision 2030 sustainability goals, which include achieving 100% recyclable packaging and sourcing all fiber from responsibly managed forests certified by organizations such as FSC, PEFC, and SFI.

Beyond Carbon: Supporting Communities and Ecosystems

In addition to its environmental impact, the reforestation projects aim to strengthen local economies by supporting smallholder forestry, rural employment, and community education on sustainable land management. The collaboration between GPI and the Arbor Day Foundation emphasizes that sustainability extends beyond packaging — it is about restoring the ecological systems that underpin the entire value chain.

“Partnerships like this demonstrate how the packaging industry can be a force for good,” said Dan Lambe, CEO of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Together, we can rebuild ecosystems, reduce atmospheric carbon, and ensure a more sustainable planet for future generations.”

Packaging and Planet in Harmony

This initiative underscores Graphic Packaging International’s belief that sustainability must go beyond product design. By investing in reforestation and environmental recovery, the company is strengthening the foundation for a renewable, low-carbon future while inspiring broader industry collaboration.

“Our goal is to create packaging that not only serves our customers but also preserves the natural systems that make our materials renewable,” Doss added. “Through this partnership, we’re turning that vision into action.”

As one of the largest producers of paperboard packaging in the world, GPI’s collaboration with the Arbor Day Foundation sets a benchmark for how packaging companies can contribute to global reforestation and carbon neutrality — proving that sustainability and growth can thrive together.
