Mosca partners with Interzero to enhance PET and PP recycling, supporting a circular economy and minimizing the need for new materials in strapping production.
Mosca GmbH has strengthened its commitment to sustainability by collaborating with Interzero, leveraging their efficient recycling of PET and PP strapping to minimize the reliance on new materials in their production processes. This partnership underscores Mosca's dedication to reducing environmental impact and supporting a circular economy.
At a glance, packaging materials appear to have a short lifespan: they are used, disposed of, and replaced. However, with the increasing importance of sustainable commodity use, recycling has become a pivotal practice. Materials such as cardboard, paper, and especially strapping, composed mainly of PET and PP, are highly recyclable. As a key player in packaging safety, Mosca integrates recycled materials into its production. For instance, the recycled content in Mosca's PP strapping ranges from 30% to 100%, depending on the strapping size, while their PET strapping is made entirely from recycled materials.
Simone Mosca, Managing Director of Mosca GmbH, states, “As a sustainably operating company, we prioritize the responsible use of primary resources and the systematic recycling of PET and PP materials.” This approach not only reduces dependency on fluctuating commodity markets but also ensures the production of high-quality strapping.
Since the fall of 2023, Mosca has been working closely with Interzero, an expert in circular solutions and plastics recycling, to achieve these goals. Ann Mertens, Sustainability Officer at Mosca, emphasizes, “Sustainable action thrives on robust partnerships across the value chain, supporting us in implementing an effective circular economy.”
Interzero’s role extends beyond recycling; they are also responsible for Mosca’s logistics, handling both upstream and downstream processes. They collect used strapping from customers and return the shredded or recycled material to Mosca, ensuring transparency in the recycling process and availability of PET and PP.
Britta von Selchow, Head of Sales Circular Solutions at Interzero, explains, “Through our material account, we provide our partners with a digital twin of their raw materials and circular management. This tool enables them to track the status of recycled materials at any time, strategically secure access to raw materials, and thereby close the loop.”
The material account functions like a bank account, showing the amount of recycled PET and PP available for reuse, measured in tons. This digital platform allows Mosca to manage its production efficiently, maintaining access to crucial raw materials in alignment with their ‘Nonstop Performance’ tagline.
Simone Mosca highlights the benefits of this system, “This allows us to precisely control our strapping production while maintaining access to vital raw materials.”
Moreover, the continuous recording of circular economy data facilitates seamless sustainability and financial reporting. Simone Mosca concludes, “Thanks to the platform, we not only know the current status of our PET and PP but also the share we have recycled each year, creating a crucial basis for transparent sustainability communication.”
