The factory will recycle mixed flexible and rigid plastics, including films, currently considered "non-recyclable." The HydroPRS™ process complements mechanical recycling and enables a circular economy for plastics, producing recycled plastic raw materials for new plastic manufacturing.
The new factory has the capacity to produce 20,000 tons per year of recycled liquid hydrocarbons, with the potential to triple production capacity. Located at Wilton International, it creates up to 50 direct jobs and around 100 additional jobs in related infrastructure to support operations.

The technology works alongside existing mechanical recycling to ensure no plastic is considered 'non-recyclable' and requires incineration or landfill."
Developed by Mura Technology, the HydroPRS™ process, unlike pyrolysis, uses high-pressure and high-temperature water to convert post-consumer flexible and rigid plastics of multiple layers, such as films, pots, bowls, and trays, widely considered "non-recyclable" by other methods, into stable hydrocarbon raw materials.
Through this process, there is no limit to how many times the same material can be recycled, meaning HydroPRS™ has the potential to significantly reduce single-use plastics and permanently increase material circularity in the plastics industry.
Independent life cycle assessments (LCAs) have shown that the HydroPRS™ process provides an 80% carbon emissions savings by diverting "non-recyclable" plastic from incineration. Compared to fossil-based petrochemicals, HydroPRS™ produces products with an equivalent or lower Global Warming Potential and saves up to five barrels of oil for every ton of plastic waste processed.
Mura has received investments from companies across the plastic recycling value chain, including KBR, Dow, CPChem, LG Chem, and igus GmbH, along with funding from the UK Research & Innovation's Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge and the Government's Future Fund. These partnerships have enabled Mura to begin global expansion, with plans in development for locations in the US and Dow's factory in Böhlen, Germany. In addition to these investments, the company has partnered with Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, LG Chem, and GS Caltex Corporation for the development of HydroPRS facilities in Japan and South Korea.
