Nexgen Packaging, a global leader in apparel brand identification and packaging solutions, has marked a significant milestone with the grand opening of its African headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The inauguration ceremony, held at the heart of the Export Processing Zone in Athi River, Nairobi, saw the esteemed presence of His Excellency Hon. William Samoei Ruto, Ph.D., C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya, alongside Meg Whitman, U.S. Ambassador to Kenya.
In a strategic move highlighting Nexgen's commitment to sustainability, the company chose Nairobi as the location for its new facility. Jim Welch, CEO of Nexgen Packaging, expressed pride in the company's pioneering role as the first global supplier in the industry to establish a presence in Kenya. Welch emphasized Nexgen's dedication to meeting the evolving needs of customers while prioritizing sustainable practices.
Partnering with Contech Container Technology Ltd., Nexgen transformed upcycled shipping containers into a state-of-the-art facility. This eco-friendly initiative includes features such as solar-powered lights and bamboo light posts, earning the facility EDGE certifications for green building practices.
Goutham Reddy, Director of Best Lifestyle Kenya EPZ Ltd., praised Nexgen's entry into Kenya, recognizing its significance in the country's garment sector. Similarly, Jehan Jayasuriya, CMO of MAS Intimates, celebrated the milestone, highlighting Nexgen's pivotal role in their supply chain.
Nexgen Kenya brings a comprehensive range of capabilities to the African market, focusing on sustainable solutions tailored to meet diverse needs. From care labels to RFID tags, the facility offers a wide array of packaging products. Additionally, the expansion into Kenya brings employment opportunities, with close to 100 roles spanning production, sales, marketing, finance, and administration.
